Narration of a weekend in Italy, invited by DEA for the delivery and payment of my new engine.
I visited “the cave of Ali Baba', and apparently the Forty Thieves were never here.
I arrived on Sunday the 8th March at 3 p.m. in Italy in the Modena suburbs, near Maranello and Fiorano. The “boss' Andrea Degli Esposti received me in person. Immediately he gets into the swing of things, he is going to assemble my engine.
I immediately felt the mastery of Andrea, because every gesture was precise, with a lot of his “little tricks' of assemblage that change your life and make it a “top running' engine. I'm overwhelmed by the finish quality of this engine, every part was thought of and nothing is left to chance. The “moulded' crankcases are perfect and the assemblage feels it because everything reaches perfection. Thanks to his art, I wouldn't be surprised if in 5 years, most riders will run on Narration of a weekend in Italy, invited by DEA for the delivery and payment of my new engine.. Especially when they would discover that everybody, either Sunday rider or European Champion have the same engine, optimised just like DEA does currently. If there are sceptical left among you, I will tell you that Narration of a weekend in Italy, invited by DEA for the delivery and payment of my new engine.works for many kart and motorbike engine builders and that a lot of their productions were created by Andrea Degli Esposti. I've promised so can't reveal the brands, but you would be very surprised if you knew…
But let's go back to our subject… Andrea, during a little break, let me visit the place, it's really impressive, because first of all the premises are huge and the equipment is top level, I understand that is not by chance if the engine works so good just “unpacked'.
During the visit, I could see a soundproofed room with the power motor bench, a piece of jewellery, then another room also soundproofed with a dynamic bench and a kind of vehicle, a sort of motorbike where the engine being tested is mounted on the dynamic bench.
There was a third motor bench in a third room but I forget what it was used for.
Next I visited the machining centre, the DAO room, the room where the cylinder and crankcase moulds are prepared, etc…, the room assigned for the ignition tests and electronic devices, the office area and the stockroom where the parts are packed when ready to be sent.
Andrea went back to assemble work and around 9 p.m. we were too hungry and we went to eat… guess what! pizza of course!
After that, we made an appointment on Monday at 8.30 a.m.
I'm there right on time, Andrea is already at work and I arrive on time because he's going to arrange the ignition, then a short passage on the bench to verify the bends and re-session of assemblage with explanations as a support. Finally my engine is ready.
It's briefing time and I take my notebook to jot down and to my surprise, I only needed three lines. The feed, the switch thickness, the carburettor set up and… Basta.
With a Narration of a weekend in Italy, invited by DEA for the delivery and payment of my new engine., you don't tinker more, it is already optimised.
The cylinder diagram, the cylinder heads volume, the admission valves size, the feed point, the ignition programming, the carburettors set up, everything was already tested on the bench, and the best was put on theNarration of a weekend in Italy, invited by DEA for the delivery and payment of my new engine. “without any restriction'.
Here they are, the different boxes are on the car, I take leave of Andrea, he reminds me that of the first race at Dijon, I don't have my cylinders but “loan' cylinders already used, the new production must be ready at the end of March.
I am very satisfied by this first visit because Mr. Degli Esposti is really nice, modest, has a passion for his job, and for me with little experience of a 2 stroke engine, he is a bottomless pit of knowledge.
About 750km far away, I am back at “home'. I begin to work immediately because I have only 4 days to assemble the engine on the kart, the first tests at Ledenon are at the weekend.
Finally, the “beast' is ready, priming of the carburettors and start up without surprise at the first lick of a strap, “chapeau' Andrea, even in the urgency, not any problems.
Saturday the 14th March, ready to get down to the job at the pit lane of Ledenon. The fill it up is made, I am ready to run the engine.
15 minutes later, the first lap “a little bit fast', and there is the ecstasy, this engine goes at every speed, it pushes very hard from the low speed and doesn't stop.
The gear box is a delight, the locking connections are straight and specific, the descent and climb are made easily. It's over, I have to go back home…
The second and third test session take place without problems, the carburetion set up given from Andrea was perfect, I never did so few repairs or modifications since I began with the Superkart. Unfortunately, at Ledenon we run with cars, so it is impossible to compare times. I will wait until Dijon to set the standards with the competition but I am relieved because I saw the partials took on the right line, this engine goes very very hard. We wait and see what happens at Dijon.
